At Charleston Southern University, I have been the lead instructor for the Research Cognate Courses, including teaching quantitative statistics and research methods, as well as research design. I also teach a course that prepares students to write their dissertation, where they focus on writing Chapters one through three.
EDUC 801- Behavioral Statistics - Instructor, Hybrid
Provides a basic understanding of quantitative statistical methods commonly used in research and education. Key concepts and tests include sampling, level of measurement, probability, sensitivity/specificity, Type I and Type II errors, chi-square, t-tests, simple linear regression, analysis of variance. The application of these tests in research reports is analyzed and critiqued. (Fall 2021; Spring 2022)
EDUC 900 – Dissertation Prospectus - Instructor, Hybrid
Assists doctoral students as they develop a research question and the first three dissertation chapters, provide a preliminary outline of the research project, and seek approval from the EdD Committee for conducting research (Fall 2021, Summer 2022)
EDUC 822- Quantitative Research Methods - Instructor, Hybrid
Provides an introduction to quantitative data analysis. Focus is on the theory and application of basic statistical techniques including descriptive statistics, confidence intervals, hypothesis tests, and causal modeling. Candidates develop the ability to interpret and present in written and oral form the results of univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analyses. Formulate questions using numerical data suitable for statistical analyses and drawing conclusions (Spring 2022)
EDUC 811- Research Design - Instructor, Hybrid
Provides an in-depth examination of quantitative research approaches, sampling techniques, threats to validity, ethical considerations and reviewing, writing quantitative methodology descriptions for research proposals and reports (Summer 2022)
Samples of Recent Student Quotes from Course Evaluations
"Dr Cruz went above and beyond to helping us be successful in this course. It was apparent how much time, dedication and thought was put into not only presenting the content of this course to us but making it applicable to what we needed."
"All assignments contributed to my learning. However, the professor contributed to me learning how to be dedicated to a task. Dr. Cruz went over and beyond what is expected of a professor. She was always available and made sure we were able to access valuable resources that she provided outside of class hours. For example, when she showed us how to calculate an assignment, she would follow up by leaving a video for us to access if we needed it."
"Dr. Cruz did an awesome job. I can't think of a way to improve this course, she used a variety of methods to teach and bring home major points. Phenomenal professor and tech skills are through the roof."
